Privacy Policy
Effective 5 November 2026
VI Companion ("the app") is made by Vladimir Khuraskin, an independent developer. This policy explains what the app does with your data. Contact: khuraskin.dev@gmail.com
An unofficial fan app
VI Companion is an unofficial fan app for players waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, and it sends them no data.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your console choice and the checklist items you tick.
- Launch reminders. iOS schedules them on your iPhone; no server sends them.
- The widgets and the launch-night Live Activity, which read the same data from the app's storage on your iPhone.
- A copy of the launch dates, facts and cheat codes the app downloads.
The app has no account and no sign-in. It never asks for your name, email address, contacts, photos or location.
What the app collects
Usage data. The app tells Amplitude, an analytics service, how you use it: for example, which tabs you open, that you picked a console, turned on reminders or code alerts, or opened a store page. It also sends your console choice, whether reminders and code alerts are on, and how many of the app's widgets you use. With each event Amplitude gets an identifier for your device, the app version and basic device details such as the iPhone model, iOS version and language. Amplitude also receives your IP address and works out your approximate location from it.
Code alerts. Only if you turn on code alerts, the app registers your iPhone with Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service, so I can send you a notification when cheat codes are added. Firebase receives a push token and an installation identifier for the app on your device, with the device and app details it needs to deliver the message. Until you turn on code alerts, the app does not contact Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Content downloads. The app downloads its launch dates, facts and cheat codes from a file on Firebase Hosting, a Google service. Like any web server, it records your IP address and the time of the request.
What the app does not do
- It shows no ads.
- It does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- It does not use the advertising identifier.
- It does not sell data.
Permissions
- Notifications: for launch reminders and, if you turn them on, code alerts.
- Live Activities: to keep the countdown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island on launch night.
You can turn each one off in Settings.
Links
Sources, help pages and store pages open websites run by Rockstar Games, Sony, Microsoft and others. Their own privacy policies apply there.
Service providers
- Amplitude, Inc.: https://amplitude.com/privacy
- Google LLC (Firebase): https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
They process the data listed above on my behalf.
How long data is kept
Data on your iPhone disappears when you delete the app. Amplitude keeps usage data until I delete it or its retention period ends. Firebase keeps the push token until it expires or you delete the app, and keeps request logs for the period Google sets.
Your choices
To stop launch reminders and code alerts, turn off notifications for VI Companion in Settings. The data carries no name and no email address. To ask for a copy of it or for its deletion, write to me at khuraskin.dev@gmail.com and I will help you find the identifier of your installation.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new effective date.
